Eco Tourism Kenya

The inspiration 
While we had heard a lot about the Eco-tourism awards, and on two different years almost attended the Eco Tourism Awards Gala but did not, 2019 seemed to be the year Riverwood Communications was going to finally cross paths with and partner with EcoTourism Kenya (EK).


Eco Tourism an organization that promotes responsible tourism practices within the tourism industry has developed an annual awards scheme that culminates with a Gala ceremony on the eve of every World Tourism Day. While this Awards scheme and ceremony has been in place for more than ten years Eco Tourism Kenya had struggled to sustain media interest in the awards thus denying it the publicity it requires.


To this end, Riverwood communications accepted an invitation to get on board as the Public Relations partner and sponsor for the 2019 Eco Tourism Gala Awards with a view of assisting the organization achieve the publicity it deserves for the good cause it was undertaking in promoting sustainable tourism .


The Approach

How we went about it
Riverwood Communications worked with Eco Tourism Kenya to fine tune their event concept in a way that would be appealing for the media to attend the event and provide media coverage.


We leveraged on strategic input and media relationships to pitch interview opportunities for the Eco Tourism Kenya CEO to talk about sustainable tourism in view of the Eco Tourism awards and raise interest in the 2019 awards and for the future.


Invited targeted tourism writers from across media to attend and cover the event. While ensuring we generated our own video news crew footage and photos that were to be part of the press pack we were to distribute to media for coverage.

The Outcome
